Ok, First things first. I am not a professional writer nor did I major in literature. I am just your average guy trying to make it in life. The reason for this blog is so I can write about the things I see in politics and life that do not accurately represent me or the people I know. So as you read this, know that i believe a good part of America has liberal social view, with conservative fiscal values. Why do I believe this? Let me bullet the main points here.
1. Most people in America believe in helping their fellow man when they are down. About half the population believes it should be through church and private organizations. The other half of the country believes it should be government helping people get back on their feet. I personally believe that a good solution would combine both.
2. There will always be people in our society for one reason or another who cannot work or contribute to society through injury or birth defects. Those people should be taken care of. Again a combination of government and private organization should be brought to bear to help these people. My daughter is a quadriplegic from a car accident so I understand how hard it can be for people in this situation.
3. Most of us want to believe in the social programs that currently exist as effective and helpful. We understand that most government programs become money pits where very few dollars go to actually helping people. Most government programs spend very little dollars on the people they are intended to help and create huge bureaucracies.
4. Very few people actually think the government is effective in spending our money, but we don’t trust big business to do it either. So how do we create system that we can trust that spends our money effectively and helps the most number of people?
These are just a few points that I am pointing out. The list could go on for pages. I do consider myself to be fiscally conservative, but socially liberal. According to the two predominate political parties; there is no room for me. As each of these parties becomes more partisan, the majority of Americans are left wondering just how broken our political system is.
I think it is time for a 3rd party to rise up. One that is not burdened with old planks and alliances that the democrats and republican parties are currently beholden to. The democrats owe thier soles to the labor unions. The republicans owe theirs to big business and anyone they can pull a dime out of. I know this is not completely true, but it sure feels true.
I feel that the media picks their winners and losers and everyone just goes along for the ride. Some of these outlets buck the trends like fox news, but then they go to heavy the opposite direction sometimes. It makes it hard for people like me to decide. Shawn Hannity and Rachel Maddow are two examples. Both of these people who try to portray themselves as hard news journalist, are nothing more that the most partisan hacks. Doing everything they can to put down the other side’s opinions or views. I can’t take either of them seriously.
The way I see it, all we have left is political spin and the truth and solutions get buried in the rhetoric.
I look forward to the day that we can look at problems and come up with solutions without everything turning into political debate based on republican and democrat talking points.
I am going to use this blog as way of point out crap that I see every day that I think needs to be exposed. There is an election coming up and I have a voice. I want to be heard. I want the people who are running for office to understand that there are other people out there like me who are discouraged and are starting to lose our trust in the people we elect. My opinion right now is, VOTE THEM ALL OUT. Bring new people. If someone has been in office for more than 2 terms, get rid of them.
